Unveiling the microbiome: its role in public health and sustainable agriculture in Pakistan
Abstract
The microbiome, a complex ecosystem of microorganisms residing in and on humans, plants and animals, has become a critical player in public health and sustainable agriculture. This article explores the multifaceted roles of the microbiome in Pakistan, focusing on its contributions to human health, environmental well-being and food security. We deepen the current understanding of the impact of the gut microbiome on malnutrition, infectious diseases and chronic diseases in the Pakistani context. Additionally, we highlight the potential for harnessing the microbiome for sustainable agricultural practices, such as bioremediation, improving crop yields, and improving soil health. The article concludes by highlighting the need for further research and development in the field of microbiome science to unlock its full potential for public health and agricultural advancement in Pakistan.
